Scope of the Research Board
The Research Board works with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Development to promote faculty and student research initiatives. The Board's scope encompasses sponsored research and faculty research abroad; university research; and student research programs.
Function of the Research Board
The Research Board serves three primary functions: advocacy for research at Purdue University Calumet; development of research policy; and review of internal research grants and awards nominations.
- Research Advocacy - The Board promotes the importance of research to the university community, enhances research support from the University; communicates with outside agencies and the West Lafayette campus to develop funding sources; and facilitates interdisciplinary research. In addition, the Board works with the Center for International Programs to develop opportunities for sponsored research in collaboration with international scholars.
- Research Policy - The Board works with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Development to develop policies for internal and external research grants and contracts, and internal research awards.
- Internal Grant Review - The Board oversees the review of internal research grants and university research events.
Members of the Research Board serve as chairs of internal research review subcommittees, such as:
- Summer Proposal Development Grant
- Summer PRF Grant
Research Board Membership
The Research Board is comprised of 11 members from across the University. Board terms last for three years duration, with three new positions rotating in each year. Initial terms are staggered during the first 3 years to allow a rotating membership format. The Board is comprised of tenured and tenure-track associate and full professors from the following areas:
1 member from the School of Education
1 member from the School of Engineering, Mathematics, & Sciences
1 member from the School of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences
1 member from the School of Management
1 member from the School of Nursing
1 member from the School of Technology
2 at large tenured faculty positions elected by the Research Board
2 at large untenured/tenure track (assistant or associate)
1 Dean
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Research & Development serves as an ex officio member
1 member from the library who serves as an ex officio member
Election of Research Board Chair
The Research Board Chair is elected for a one-year term by the members of the Research Board. The election takes place on the last meeting of the academic year in April. The new Chair assumes his or her duties at the first meeting of the next academic year in September.
Research Board Meetings
The Research Board meets the fourth Wednesday of each month of the academic year from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. |
