More students, better students are attending Purdue Calumet
More students are attending Purdue University Calumet this fall than ever before. But that’s not the whole story. While our record-setting enrollment of 9,607 is indeed good news, the bigger picture of Purdue Calumet enrollment offers even better news.
That’s because, we achieved record enrollment…
- while continuing a five-year trend of enrollment growth (up 9 percent);
- during our second year of an enrollment management strategy to increase minimum admissions requirements:
- while also increasing student diversity to 33.5 percent of our total domestic student body.
Increasing enrollment while raising minimum admission standards and attracting more students of color may have seemed like too much to ask.
What we have learned is that our decision to implement recruiting strategies and incentives that target successful, results-oriented students intent on earning a Purdue degree on our campus has been successful. This is our commitment to quality.
In recent years, we have introduced renewable Best & Brightest Scholarships, an Honors Program and growing experiential learning opportunities. Plus, this fall, 24 entering freshmen accepted full tuition Chancellor’s Scholars Awards as Valedictorians and Salutatorians of their respective high school graduating classes last spring. This year, we have 31 Chancellor’s Scholars enrolled at Purdue Calumet.
Our strategic efforts to advance Purdue Calumet as a university that attracts students more for reasons of academic quality than convenience are becoming realized.
