Resume structure and examples

There is no one, correct method to writing and designing an effective resume. The following provides a general overview of a resume and its components. Please use the Chronological and Functional resume examples as tools in creating your own.  After completing your resume, please bring it to a Resume and Cover Letter Workshop for review.

OBJECTIVE

A short phrase or paragraph addressing what you are interested in doing. Attempt to phrase this from an employer's perspective (i.e., How are your goals in line with the organizations?)

EDUCATION

College name, location (city, state)
Degree (can be abbreviated), major or emphasis
Date or expected date of graduation

List honors and recognition's with dates.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Job title, company name and location (city, state)

Describe accomplishments, responsibilities, and skills learned. List jobs in reverse chronological order and should include dates of employment. Write in past tense and use action verbs. Emphasize leadership and supervisory functions.

SKILLS/ACTIVITIES/INTERESTS

Clubs, emphasize offices held, special projects etc. Include hobbies if they reinforce the career objective. List any special skills, including ability to operate computers, office and industrial machinery and language fluency.
